With nearly 30 years of experience—and thousands of successful procedures—plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Epstein knows what it takes to safely and effectively help patients look better and more refreshed.

In a recent interview with TheBestDocs.com from his thriving Chicago-area office, Dr. Epstein shared his insight on the key considerations for patients who may be thinking about facial rejuvenation.

“To start, I firmly believe every patient needs to understand why they’re experiencing the un-welcomed physiological and anatomical changes caused by aging before developing a treatment plan, Dr. Epstein explains. His decades of experience reveal that patients who understand the reasons for their drooping eyelids or sagging chin or neck, for example, tend to make better decisions about their treatment plan.

It’s not surprising, then, that Dr. Epstein stresses the importance of an extensive facial analysis that includes detailed photographs from the top of the head to the neckline. The goal here is to help the patient literally see the trouble spots and, more importantly, set expectations about the results that can be achieved.

He further emphasizes how important it is for the patient to understand what can realistically be accomplished. “It’s not uncommon for a patient to come to me with a photo of themselves when they were 20 years younger and ask to replicate that exact look,” he explains “In these cases, I stress that it’s not about looking a specific age…it’s about looking better, more refreshed, more vibrant. Achieving a natural look is the end goal. No one wants to look overdone.”

“I’ve been performing facial rejuvenation procedures for almost three decades and my practice has always offered a blend of treatment solutions to optimize the results.”

This is precisely the reason Dr. Epstein says each individual requires a unique treatment plan that very often will include a mix of non-surgical procedures and plastic surgery. “I’ve been performing facial rejuvenation procedures for almost three decades and my practice has always offered a blend of treatment solutions to optimize the results.”

He also explains how many patients may require traditional surgical procedures like a facelift, browlift or necklift yet there are minimally invasive procedures, too…like FaceTite and Structural Fat Grafting, that may be offered to achieve the desired enhancement:

●        FaceTite addresses shifting fat deposits, jowls, double chins, and a loss of facial contours through the use of radio-frequency energy to shrink fat and tighten the skin.

●        Fat grafting uses the patient’s own fat supply to minimize the appearance of deep facial wrinkles, creases, furrows, sunken cheeks, skin depressions and certain types of scars.

Dr. Epstein stresses, however, that no matter which treatment plan is best, it’s critically important to partner with a surgeon who has the credentials to perform the procedures safely and effectively. To that end, he recommends working with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, which helps ensure the surgeon has the highest level of education and skills.

It’s no surprise that he describes his job as a combination of art, science, and surgical medicine.  “I love the actual work, but what really gets me excited is seeing both the physical and emotional transformations that patients experience.”

Dr. Epstein is not only certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, he is an active member of the prestigious American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Aesthetic Society and the Rhinoplasty Society. He has also been a featured guest on numerous news programs and was profiled on Discovery Channel as cameras documented his approach to various cosmetic procedures.
